Bicycling has been a love of mine for as long as I can remember. Now, as an aging dad and corporate stiff, I've made a conscious decision to spend more time on my bike, taking to the neighborhoods and parks near my home. It's an absolutely perfect blend of escape, adventure and loafing. I especially enjoy the loafing part.
Pedaling off into the horizon, as Mr. Byrne shares in the video below, gives us "this kind of nicely paced perspective of the city." He goes on to say, very astutely, "that because you're kind of gliding on wheels, it feels kind of dreamy, there's a sense of floating through the landscape and watching it as it goes by, but you can stop at any moment if something catches your eye."
It certainly alters my frame of reference, gives me another reason to be happy and delivers a respectable level of physical fitness.
Most of all, biking makes me feel like a kid again. And isn't that a delightful way to feel? I'm convinced that the most rewarding moments in my life are the ones that evoke childhood's sense of discovery and freedom and euphoria. I pledge to ride more and worry less!
